You can run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run. If Lock can be consistent enough with the short to intermediate passing game and actually make opponents respect and fear our passing game, you'll stop seeing so many linebackers and safties creeping up into the box to stifle any running game we have which will in turn open up far more lanes in the running game as they'll be forced to stay in their lanes to take care of their pass D assignments and responsibilities.
That's where we're at right now....opposing defenses have absolutely nothing to fear in any facet of our offense. And well, I think we've all seen the results of that this year and it needs no further explaining.
Somebody else posted in a thread that if we went 60/40 Mauk to Lock, that Maty would play himself out and Drew would play himself in. Both scenarios, the one above and what we are currently doing are dangerous for a team. The quarterback trying to prove himself certainly is open to taking more chances. Whether it's Drew with two possessions a game, or Maty seeing his pt slipping away.
