Don't know if many on here have taken long distance Amtrak trips. We just returned from doing Seattle to Chicago (flew back on Delta) and it rated maybe a 5 out of 10. Nothing luxurious about it at all. We went for the full bedroom with in room toilet and shower......duck tape on the ceiling to keep water out of the bedroom area. Empire Builder ran really late. I understand they pay BNSF to use the tracks but geez the tracks are in really bad shape in some states. Food was ok but not great. Our car attendant was actually very good but the dining car staff just average. On the positive side we met some really nice people from the UK, one who worked for a Scotch distillery so we now have a place to visit in Glasgow if we ever get there. But I can't recommend Amtrak to anyone
Chicago was great....Gene and Georgetti a really good steak and the Adam Lambert & Queen concert at the United Center was amazing....so all was not lost.
