Many of his critics, myself included, had a few legitimate gripes about his tenure so far and in the past two months he has answered almost all of them.
1. Can’t beat a decent team. Well he has a victory over a top 10 team on the road and beat multiple other bowl teams this year.
2. Can’t recruit St Louis which is a must to win on the reg here. He has 6 or 7 and possibly more on the way.
3. No transition plan from Drew Lock at QB. And this one is freaking huge. We went from hoping that an average ranked WB in Powell would step up big time when giving the chance to being set at the position for the next 3 years. Getting the two biggest names at QB to transfer so far. Once Fields lands somewhere that won’t be the case but this is still a homerun. He got a guy who has done nothing but win in college and then lands a highly ranked guy who would probably never be available had he not got injured and should lead the team in 2020 and 2021. At that point both Bazelak and Cook will be primed for a QB battle if he doesn’t get someone else that passes him up.
4. And this is the only one he still needs to answer in my book. Slow starts have killed us this last year. I honestly think if we played any team in the country the week after the Arky game outside of Bama we would have had a great shot to win. But because of the early failure we may finish just in the top 20 at best. Next year they need to be full throttle coming out of the gate. I think he can do that.
