Why does everyone assume the SEC would only be interested in raiding ACC schools such as UNC, Duke, UVa, VaTech, GT, Miami, etc., all of which are great schools and I dont mean to imply otherwise.

But the Big10 is about to have a presence in all 4 time zones and 2 of the 3 largest cities on the west coast. I know we all like to poke fun of the Big10 around here but thats nothing to scoff at.

Why wouldn't the SEC make a strong play for the Arizona schools? Closer to TX and Ok than any Big10 school, 5th largest metro area in the country.

If the whole point of realignment is about expanding your presence and adding new markets then why the hell would the SEC prefer ACC schools over the Arizona schools?

I guess to get to 24 the SEC could add

Arizona
Utah
Colorado
Florida State
Miami
Clemson
UNC
Virginia

Add 5 AAU schools and a bunch of flagships, plus some football powers. That wouldn’t be too bad.

It has very little to do with either of those things anymore. Miami and UNC would be far more advantageous additions.

Arizona is a recruiting dead zone. And nobody really cares that much about the football programs.

I’m on board! Bear Down and Forks Up!

Not a fan of the time zone difference but everything else I like!

Phoenix is also one of the fastest growing metros in the US. You'd be insane to turn your nose at them. Make no mistake geography doesn't matter. It's about eyeballs and money. Arizona St and Phoenix checks those boxes

Not eyeballs that would be on SEC football.

Any world in which people think UofA would be grabbed before ASU is simply a fantasy world. There is simply no logical basis for this beyond UofA being good at basketball, and ask Kansas how much that matters to the SEC or Big 10.
You telling me football talent in AZ wouldn’t sign up to play in the SEC at Zona in a heartbeat over f’ing ASU?

If you elevate UofA to the SEC and leave ASU behind, sure they would? The fact you have to elevate them out of the Pac-12 to get above ASU to make that true is part of the point though.

That was the exact selling point for getting A&M out of the big xii and into the SEC. The SEC brand and money will attract the athletes some of these schools are struggling to get.

I get 100% why UofA would want the SEC invite, i just don't see why the SEC should have them anywhere near the top of our list? Even just compared with ASU? They literally just offer basketball, and conference realignment so far has shown conferences dont care one bit about basketball compared with football or revenue potential, areas where UofA is far behind most other candidates.

Same quality gals… ASU /PHX >>>> than Tuscon. If you’re a high school age kid that matters, and it probably should. If you like guy yell leaders, the A&M & Tuscon are your spot. Keep doing you though, gig ‘em

This is not at all what the point of realignment is. The TV networks are controlling this and they only want one thing, the biggest matchups. Arizona and ASU offer absolutely nothing from a matchup standpoint.

Unless they take Utah, Colorado, or one of the Arizona schools, the B1G won't be in all four time zones.

I don't think the state of Arizona makes sense for us.

7+ million people, with a large midwestern presence and the B1G isn't going to take one of those schools?

You ever been to Phoenix? The 5th largest metro in the country? ASU owns that town. UA is a very distant 2nd
I agree with your overall point. Living there part of the year I would say it’s a stretch to describe the U of A as a distant second. A clear second in my opinion would be more accurate. Both schools have a high number of Californians who go there for one year to get grades and transfer back into the Cal system.
