On the way to the grocery store in California, I was listening to Mike Krukow call in and tell the story of how former Cardinal & Phillie Bake McBride got his name. He claims that one of his managers got so used to batting another player and McBride 1,2 in the order that he just started calling them Able and Baker like the military code A and B. According to Krukow it stuck. EDIT: BTW, I knew McBride was from Fulton but didn't know he went to Westminster.
