From Matt Puttin:

The Tigers (14-9) (0-3 SEC) came out on Sunday looking to take at least one game in the series after Friday’s 4-3 defeat in 10 innings and Saturday’s 6-2 loss but were not able to add win number 15 on the season.

Missouri never gave up in Sunday’s series finale but fell short against No. 1 Florida (21-1) (3-0 SEC) 7-5.

The Tigers rallied from a 6-1 deficit to pull within in one run at 6-5 but could not push across runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull ahead in the game.

“It’s a microcosm of the season,” Head Coach Tim Jamieson said to MUTigers.com. “The first half of the game, we were not dialed in as well as we are capable of being. We struggled and looked bad. Then the second half of the game, when we were dialed in, we can compete with any team in the country. We outplayed Florida in the second half of the game. We just spotted them too many runs early.”

Senior Austin Tribby (2-2) went three innings striking out one, allowing five hits and five runs earning the loss for the Tigers. Florida’s starter Alex Faedo (5-0) earned the win working 5.2 innings striking out nine, allowing six hits and five runs. He had allowed just four earned runs prior to Sunday.

Despite the loss, doubles were abundant for the Tiger offense at McKethan Stadium. Brett Bond (2-4, run) hit a one-out double and was later knocked in by Connor Brumfield (1-2, RBI) to cut the Florida lead in half 2-1.

Florida extended its lead in the next half inning. Two doubles and three runs chased Tribby out of the game. Cole Bartlett worked 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and one run.

Trailing 6-1 in the top of the sixth, Jake Ring (1-3, run, RBI) and Zach Lavy (1-4, run, RBI) both tallied RBI doubles. Lavy now leads the team with nine. Brian Sharp (2-4, RBI) and Trey Harris (0-3, RBI) added to the crooked number in the inning but could not score the tying run. Florida added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a J.J. Schwarz (1-3, run, RBI) RBI double.

The Tigers trail the all-time series with Florida 14-4.

Missouri looks to refresh with a midweek off before welcoming No. 2 Vanderbilt to Columbia for a three-game weekend series. Below are the game times for the Vanderbilt series.
