Missouri (17-13) (2-7 SEC) continued the trend of the four run inning from Saturday’s 8-5 victory to Sunday’s 10-1 series win over No. 15 Arkansas (19-9) (4-5 SEC) in Fayetteville.

The series win is Missouri’s first road series win over a top-20 team since March 29, 2014 when the Tigers took two of three from Auburn according to MuTigers.com.

The Tigers scored four runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Connor Brumfield (0-4, run) led off the inning with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ryan Howard (2-5, two runs, RBI) continued to swing a hot bat notching four RBI’s in the series. Zach Lavy (3-4, two runs, two RBI’s) hit his fourth triple of the year to deep centerfield scoring Howard. Shane Benes (1-3, run, RBI) doubled in the fourth run giving the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

Lavy is hitting .319 with 3 home runs and a team leading 24 RBI’s. Lavy leads the team in triples, 17 extra-base hits and 12 multi-hit games.

Freshman Michael Plassmeyer (2-2, 5.13 ERA) made his first career SEC start and earned his second career win. The lefty went 3.2 innings striking out a career-high five batters, allowed four hits and zero runs.

Cole Bartlett worked 2.2 innings in relief striking out two and allowed a run. Bartlett has been a reliable arm in the Tiger bullpen logging 28 innings pitched. In those 28 innings, Bartlett has struck out 15 while only allowing six walks.

Mizzou put up another four spot in the eighth inning after a remarkable catch by web gem machine Jake Ring (1-4, run, stolen base). With runners on second and third with two outs, Ring made a diving backhanded catch for the third out of the inning. Second Baseman Ian Nelson (0-4, RBI) executed a bases-loaded safety squeeze to make the score 5-1. Junior Kirby McGuire hit his first career Division I home run, a three-run blast to left giving the Tigers a comfortable 8-1 lead. The Tigers added two more runs in the ninth.

Brian Sharp earned his fourth save of the season as the freshman worked 2.2 scoreless innings striking out three. Mizzou leads the all-time series with Arkansas 29-24-1.

“We need to keep building on our performances,” Head Coach Tim Jamieson said to SEC Network. “We are still far away from being a complete team. We still have some question marks but we are a lot better team now than we were at the beginning of the season and beginning of conference play.”

The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m., against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (4-20) at Taylor Stadium. Tex Little and Trevor Coleman will have the call on KTGR [1580 AM/103.1 FM]. Mizzou opens a three-game series with Auburn (13-15) (2-7 SEC) this weekend at Taylor Stadium.
