SAUGET, Ill. – Junior Torin Montgomery produced a perfect 4-for-4 day with four RBI to lead Missouri baseball to an 11-7 win over Illinois in the return of the Braggin’ Rights rivalry at GCS Credit Union Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Montgomery’s masterful evening at the plate included his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth inning. Along with Montgomery, Josh Day, Luke Mann and Nander De Sedas each had multi-hit games with 2-for-4 nights for Mizzou (14-7). Fox Leum added to the Tigers’ onslaught with his first home run of the season as well, a towering shot which left the ballpark to right.

On the mound, Nathan Landry tossed four strong innings in the start while allowing just one run. Jacob Kush (2-0) earned the win with two innings of relief work.

Illinois (10-12) used home runs from Justin Janas and Ryan Hampe to push the Tigers. Ryan Kutt (0-2) took the loss on the mound after allowing four runs in 2.2 innings of work.

IMPACT INNING

After Illinois struck first with a run in the top of the second, Leum helped the Tigers respond with a pair in the bottom half. Montgomery opened the inning with a single to give the black & gold a baserunner. After a fielder’s choice, Leum stepped to the plate and launched a 3-1 offering to right, clearing not only the outfield wall but also the 25-foot retaining wall beyond the berm. The two-run shot put the Tigers ahead for good.

FROM THE SKIP

Coach Bieser on a big offensive night…

“I think at the start we knew exactly what we were in. We were in a midweek game, we're gonna have to score runs and we were able to do that constantly. So, I was really proud of our offense. I think we had one 1-2-3 inning and everything else we were fighting pretty hard and were able to come out of here with a victory today.”
