Believe Vandy had a good idea

I was there and that was on our side of the field. LB3 was wide open in the end zone, no one within 20 yards. Couldn't believe it, Luther couldn't either. Luther wasn't the only one missed. Mookie was wide open in the flat with no one between him and the goal line 40 yards away. There were several others, mostly underneath because of the two deep coverage. Don't expect him to see them all but have to see some. Too much lock on to one receiver. I watch his head all day, rarely moved off primary target.
I don't think Brady had that much time to miss all these open receivers you're speaking of. He was sacked three times. When the QB is being rushed like ours was, you really don't have a lot of time to check down to secondary receivers. Our biggest problem was not scoring in the Red Zone plus we missed three FG's, we make those we're walking off with a pretty convincing win in regulation. We probably should've scored at least another TD instead of settling for a missed FG on another drive. Cook and the offense wasn't great, but it was a team effort, coaching staff on down.

Everybody who blames Brady for the runs that went nowhere obviously weren’t paying attention that there was nowhere to go.

I said to junior in the first half that it seemed like Vandy’s defense knew every play we were gonna run before we did it.

Their head coach is a former defensive coordinator and he is their defensive coordinator this year and he is good.

All of what you said was obvious, except to Kirby Moore. Missouri should have abandoned the QB runs during the second quarter.

IF is actually a very big word, but ...

If Blake makes very makable FGs and ...
If Missouri punches the ball in for TDs (twice being inside of the ten yard line and leaving with a total of three points) and ...
If Missouri maximizes its possible Red Zone points.

Missouri beats Vanderbilt by 20 points in regulation.

But IF is a very big word.

Brady started down his WRs about as bad as I’ve seen yesterday. He’s usually a one read guy but man it was ugly at times. The deep ball he threw to burden in double coverage in the 2OT was decided before the snap. And Mekhi millers defender fell down on an in breaking route which he could have seen but, again, he’s a one read guy most times

Their offensive staff is no joke either...this Vandy team is way better than in years past. At the end of the season, I think we'll look back at this game as a good win.
Even Kill, now an Offense consultant, was once a DC and of course a HC. They have quite an experienced staff presently.

We did run for over 200, but did have some runs that put us behind the chains to often on early downs. I'd like to rewatch game, but I believe Vandy attacked our OL to get upfield as much as possible. Inside traps and screens would destroy that. For the life of me, I can never remember Mizzou throwing screens to running backs. Ever.
You have to go back to Tyler Badie, who shredded D’s with em. Then we stopped throwing to Cody, until the Vols ly. Our C should certainly be mobile enough tho I haven’t actually seen him pull.

So I don’t think Kirby really coaches screens whereas Drink did previously.

You’re correct, we aren’t throwing RB screens, and I have zero clue why

Have to turn those FGs into TDs. Cook has to get in sync when they into the red zone. Was it 6 FG attempts? If you turn half of those into TDs it's a totally different outcome. They are really struggling in the red zone and if they can figure that out this can be a solid offense. The defense is good enough for a playoff team if the offense comes around. They can do it I believe.
Some of those FG’s needed to be turned into FG’s. 😎

Let's hold the green bay packers or steel curtain Steeler's comparison for Vandy. They let GA. State score 36 points on them in a loss last week. That doesn't scream defense capable of much against a top 20 team on the road. They were manhandled by an up and down unranked Georgia Tech team.

The fans were calling for the coaches' scalps one week ago.

I don't think they will win more than one game..ball state..going forward with possible exception of Auburn and likely none of those defeats will be double overtime affairs.

Never ascribe to covert actions of an opponent for what is most easily explained by your team's shortcomings in this game.

Our last 20 possessions in regulation (11 v. Vandy and 9 v. BC excludes the last BC one where we ran out the clock), against below average defenses, we’ve scored 3 TDs. We’ve had to kick 9 FGs (bad), making 6. We’ve scored 47 points, for 2.35 points per possession. To be a good, not great, offense you need to be north of 3.5 points per possession.

Line blocking and play calling seem to be our common peoblem to me (and often are correlated in some way, in that if you can’t block guys that limits the play call options) and we better get that figured out or 8/9 wins here we come…

A note on the FGs. We’ve made 6/9 for 18 points in those possessions and we’ve scored 22 on the other 11. So 2.0 points per possession on each option. FGs are a loss leader for an offense, in that if you kick 6 FGs from inside the 20 and you make all 6 you score 18 points (make 83% or 5 out of6 you score 15) - if you scored TDs on 3 of those you’ve scored 21…..I’m not suggesting you never kick a FG, as there are game situations where they make sense, but in general every time your offense kicks a FG you are helping the other team out.

The last throw to Luther was a bad read obviously….no one is perfect. With that said….the real issue was we just needed a first down. That risky throw looks different on first down. We are wanting the QB to be almost perfect…no QB is. Chase wasn’t and neither was Tom Brady. But he has to be better than he is or has been all year.

That, to me, is the larger concern. The broadcast mentioned that the offensive unit was very frustrated on the sideline with some helmets being thrown around. I’m sure that’s part Vandy’s gameplan but also some WR being frustrated that Brady can’t get them the ball. Not great juju four games into the season.
I take exception to the throwing helmets, LBIII pouting in front of 65k fans. Why? They are letting opponents know they can get under their skin. If you know you can get to them, you do it. Luther is a leader on the team, and needs to act like it. We can say they are frustrated Brady isn't getting them the ball, but maybe they are frustrated the O line was doing poor, Brady wasn't great, others missed assignments. What fans tend to forget is that 11 guys are on same play. This isn't 7 on 7. One more thing. It is much easier to see an open receiver from, say, 45 rows above the field.
