FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- Texas Tech won the Nate Floyd sweepstakes on Thursday, who also had Missouri and Arizona among his Top 3. When Floyd announced his upcoming decision earlier in the week, we were told it was down to either Tech or Missouri. Tech got the last official visit from Floyd in September which seemed to ultimately play the biggest factor.
For a long time, Missouri was considered the favorite. That seemed to change at some point in the last couple of weeks. We don’t really know why. We checked with someone and were only told “That was a weird one.” Who knows what that means? But Mizzou moves on to the next one.
- Rivals.com analyst Sam Spiegelman caught up with Mizzou 2021 QB target Garrett Nussmeier this week for an update. The four-star prospect visited Missouri over the summer, but it seems that programs like LSU, North Carolina, and Penn State are the front runners with Michigan State, TCU, and Georgia also in the mix. He plans to make his decision around Easter.
- Spiegelman also caught up with Nussmeier's teammate, former Kansas native J. Michael Sturdivant, who is an emerging 2021 wide receiver with close ties to the Missouri program. A prospect Tiger fans should keep an eye on.
- To follow up with Jaylon Carlies and Latrell Caples, both of whom took official visits to Missouri last weekend. We've attempted to reach out to both to no avail so far. However, we don't expect commitments from either anytime soon with the coaching staff still wanting to further evaluate both to make sure they are the right guys to take for the remaining wide receiver spots.
- Keeping with the wide receiver theme, Alante Brown will be taking an official visit to Indiana this weekend. Brown told us he doesn't have any other officials scheduled right now, so it will be interesting to see what comes of the visit with the Hoosiers. Brown signed with Texas Tech in last year's recruiting class, but is currently doing a post-grad year at St. Thomas Moore (Ct.). Missouri re-offered Brown back in August.
- Missouri offered two more 2020 tight ends this week in D'Andre Rogers out of Eastside Catholic (Wash.) and Cy Ranch (Tex.) product Drake Dabney, a current Arizona commit.
Rogers released a Top 10 back in early September that included the likes of Georgia, Penn State, Miami, Arizona State, Oregon, West Virginia, Washington State, Cal, and Southern Cal. Dabney has been committed to Arizona since June and held offers from Cal, South Carolina, Arizona State, Utah, and Vanderbilt before making his decision.
It will be interesting to see if Missouri can move the needle for both prospects.
- For the "Where are they now?" segment: Former tight end commitment Maureese Wren, now lists Louisville and West Virginia as two of his top schools with the Cardinals being his leader. He is being recruited as a defensive end, which was big reason he initially backed off his Missouri pledge back in July.
- Missouri will host a ton of visitors, highlighted by two officials, when the Ole Miss Rebels come to town this weekend. We've got the details below:
Officials:
Montra Edwards
Jay Maclin *commit*
Other commits on unofficials:
Dominique Johnson
Elijah Young
Expect the usual in-state commits
Underclassmen targets expected:
Jakailan Johnson
Brett Norfleet
Kevin Coleman
Travion Ford
Demetrius Cannon
Jackson Light
Reece Jesse
Other notables:
Jaylin Noel
Jaxon Dailey
Melvin Swindle
Tyler Hibbler
Expect a lot more in-state and out-of-state prospects on campus as well. We'll catch up with as many of them as we can over the coming days.
