-Dennis Gates said he's excited about this part of the season. Said the team's shown growth and the depth has been key in the success.

-He's got nothing but positive things to say about Kansas. He and Bill Self are both from the Leonard Hamilton coaching tree. Said it's one of the best rivalries in college basketball.

-Gates thinks playing at Minnesota and at Pitt gave the team some experience playing in a hostile environment. It'll be different at Kansas but they won't be going in cold turkey.

-Asked Gates about last year's game: "I have amnesia." He said the loss ended up being helpful because the response from the team was really good. The guys who were in that game are a year older now. They'll be prepared.

-Gates said he's talked with Norm Stewart about what it's like going into the Phog. He said the biggest opponent is going to be themselves.

-Gates said he's loved what he's seen from Connor Vanover, Tamar Bates and Ant Robinson. He said he's challenged Aidan Shaw, Trent Pierce.

-Gates said John Tonje's availability is the "same as it's always been."

-Gates said Hunter Dickinson is a dynamic, dominant post player. Said he's definitely someone they have to give attention to.

-Nick Honor said a game like this makes you reflect on your career a little bit. Said the biggest thing is just to realize it's still basketball at the end of the day.

-Honor said with a venue this loud, they'll use non-verbal signals. Said it also causes you to play off of just instincts a little more.

-Honor said in some scrimmages, Gates will ref and intentionally make bad calls so that the team gets used to it playing on the road.

-Honor said last year, he had to do a little bit of research about the rivalry, hitting up Phil Pressey a bit. This year, with a lot of guys having played at or at least against Kansas, the team has a better idea of what to expect.

-Honor said a big key with slowing down Dajuan Harris is keeping him out of the paint and limiting his vision to find open shooters.
