College sports is first and foremost a business. Boosters and administrators treat it that way, coaches treat it that way, and players are figuring out they should treat it that way, too.
If you want to blame the players for “being out for themselves instead of the university,” look no further than the people leading the programs and athletic departments. What Chris Beard is doing, and what all these players in the portal are doing, isn’t right or wrong. It’s just how things are done in major college sports now.
