First, today changed nothing. It was a frustrating loss without question because it seemed like a game Missouri could have won relatively easily. I think Georgia played about a C- game. If Mizzou plays an A game, it wins. If it plays a B game, it might win. But it also played a C or C- game and UGA's C game is about two touchdowns better than Mizzou's C game.
So I do get the frustration. But look at it big picture. This was going to be a loss about nine times out of ten. So you lost. It takes the SECCG out of the picture pretty much, but that was never super realistic anyway. Going 1-2 in this three game stretch sets you up to talk about nine wins or more. And that's the goal. The South Carolina game was always the most winnable of the three. I'm actually much more confident Missouri can win that game than I was at the start of the season. I'm not sure if I'll pick them to do it, but they're capable.
Barring a miracle win over Bama, the Heisman talk is over for the season. But again, never super realistic. Drew Lock wasn't good today. I also don't think he gets much help. Albert O is the only one who seems to ever actually go make a big play for him. Most of the guys catch it if he hits them, but they don't go make those tough contested catches very often. We saw UGA do it quite a bit today. That's a big difference in these teams.
Good signs: Missouri ran the ball well. Missouri defended the run decently. They played very good defense for a half until they just broke. Missouri is 3-1 and in good position, but we still haven't seen a complete game, so there is plenty to build on.
Good/bad thing: I think we might be watching Albert O's last season in college
Best thing: At least I don't have to moderate the Nebraska board.
Overall, a frustrating day but not one that should change anyone's view of the season IMO. I know every loss seems catastrophic, but this one just wasn't. Frustrating for sure. A game they very easily could have won. But not a loss that changes anything I think about this team or this season. They've got a chance to be pretty good. I think they're talented enough if they play well to go 10-2. I also think they're capable if they don't play well of going about 5-7. The end result will probably be somewhere in between.
Pics, video, a few stories on the front. Mitchell has the big notebook coming today and we'll do grade card, snap counts and PFF grades tomorrow. Sean will also be burning up the phones on recruiting tomorrow. Lots of kids in town. Have a good night.
