NEW STORY COACHING SEARCH RUMOR MILL: DAY 1 (1:16 PM UPDATE)

Put the right staff in place, and age becomes a non-issue. Assistants do the heavy lifting, and Altman is there to close the deal. And the guy can’t flat-out coach.
Yep and college basketball coaches are continuing to work much later into their years than previously.

Boeheim is almost 80. Coach K is 75. Many on here were pining for Pitino and he turns 70 this year.

I'm not sure Kim English should be the choice. But since a dinner his freshman year I have been convinced that he very well may be at some time. I can't remember what the event was but it was at the Alumni Center my wife and I were at a table that got a Mizzou guest. It was Kim. Freshman BB player from Baltimore comes into a tableful of people on average at least 30 years his senior. Without overtly trying to he had everyone's attention in 5 minutes. His ability to relate to so many people in such a short time was to quote Gary Pinkel, amazing. Not a single look at me conversation from him. Humble, appreciative of being at the table and instantly relatable to people he had very little in common with, everyone there was blown away. My wife still talks about it as an unforgettable moment. I told Kim, after your Mizzou and NBA career I'm looking forward to your time as Mizzou's Head Coach. It wasn't completely in jest.
I don't know if now is the right time. But it might be.

I know Mizzou will have a limited amount of NIL funding, but I believe some coaches will work better with it than others. This leads me to worry about anyone over 50 with more than 10 years experience in the industry being willing to fully exploit what NIL can bring.

Gabe, do you have any insight into how the different coaches may handle NIL? Do you think older guys will be less likely to maximize the benefit?

Not surprised Miller isn't being mentioned.

A little surprised there's no rumors of interest in Chris Mack

Remarkable

Altman and Drew

Gabe really fishing for clicks this morning

If I was doing that I’d put their picture on the front page and say “could Mizzoubturn to Dana Altman?” I flat out said I think both are unlikely. Either your reading comprehension needs work or you don’t understand what “fishing for clicks” mean. You guys all already pay me. I get the same amount whether you click on every thread or no threads.

Again it’s day one

@GabeD do we really think this is the only chance to hire Kim? Feel like the fact that he is an alum would mean he actually is the type of guy we could have a 2nd shot at and get to leave a successful P5 tenure for us

I know this guy hasn’t been around coaching in a few years but what about Steve Lavin and or Johnny Dawkins

Grant McCasland, Jerome Tang, Kim English, Darian DeVries, Matt McMahon, Todd Golden, Niko Medved:

I literally have only heard of English and Medved. Before this season, never heard of Medved. Not sure if this is good or bad?

I say, just put on the bike cup and hope for the best and expect worst case scenario! We've been here too frequently not to fuk this up. It's going to be a train wreck in slow motion.
Mccasland and golden are as hot a rising name coaches as out there and for good reason.

You are the only one that thinks Sampson is a realistic possibility. He’s not
I do not know and it's the same with you cowboy. I never said the word "realistic", so don't put words in my mouth. Shoot him down if you want. And BTW, others have liked the suggestion of Sampson. "You are the only one..." is solid bull.

Why not throw his name in with the likes of Drew, Miller, etc??? We're all spit-balling here. Did you attack Gabe for reaching on his hot board???

Shove-it little man.

Just perused the newest K State hotboard. Kim English has entered their list. Mod seems to think the Drake coach will be involved with MU.

As posted in another thread, I'm told by a colleague Mizzou has reached out to Baylor assistant Jerome Tang.

An intriguing possibility. Drew’s right-hand guy. Great recruiter who knows the landscape in Texas, where the talent is deep and tremendous. And look at the success Baylor has had in the transfer portal. Believe Tang was a finalist for the Texas Tech job. Great backstory too.

Checked with someone I know familiar with OU on the Moser stuff. He told me (paraphrasing) that he wouldn't completely dismiss it but it doesn't make much sense and he thinks Moser is pretty happy at OU. So I continue to put this in the "Doesn't pass the smell test but we never say no without at least checking into it" category.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but how would Moser not be exciting? Legit curious.

Pulling a sitting coach from a strong athletic program in a strong P5 hoops conference? A coach with a Final Four on his resume?
You think Porter Moser is equally exciting as Dana Altman? Really?

Top assistant and recruiter from a program that just won a national title? I’m not saying sign me up just yet but I don’t think the sale would be as hard as you think it would be.

More of the no HC experience. Yes, that is a hard sell for a program looking to get going again.
