The first two weeks of the season have made for an interesting read on the board to say the least. I have never been high on Drink (variety of reasons that probably most share on here, but the biggest being he acts like Saban when he isn't even in the same chapter of him much less sentence) but he is the coach and I will respect him until he no longer is. He made the decision to go with Cook over Horn and while a good majority of people on this board believe that to be the wrong decision, that's who our QB is. While Cook isn't the highly touted recruit, his numbers are not bad comparatively speaking. Like Pew likes to mention, he's #17 in efficiency in the country with no INTs. He doesn't have the downfield arm strength that most would like but he is very efficient (I probably also could be too with the dink and dunk throws but not the point).
I think the bigger issue with the state of the offense is just the scheme itself. The zone run off tackle left and right isn't flashy. It isn't exciting. The fake handoff, roll out and dump off to the TE for 4 yards doesn't get anyone off their feet. Fans or recruits. Maybe I am in the minority here, but there is just something about running a play every 8 seconds and throwing it around, even if its only 8-10 yard passes (Cook thrives there), that gets people excited. And then opens up opportunities for deep balls and wide open WRs. Puts a heck of a lot more pressure on the opposing defense than running zones or counters from the shotgun. Why is Tennessee more attractive to play at then Missouri right now? Forget the coach. The city, sure. But scheme is night and day different. Drink could run the same offense as Heupel or Kiffin. It is exciting, fast, fun and maybe a bit reckless from time to time but that is what has to be done sometimes.
I know that is not the offense Drink runs. But his offense is floating around .500 in year 4 now with no change to that in sight.
