Well two general ones first then to Auburn.
1. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the 4 best wins this team has this year are the 4 best crowds they played in front of. Florida game didn’t have as many people because of the weather but those of us that were there were louder than nights that had several more. I think the university should offer one credit hour per year to fans that check in to every home game before the 12 minute timeout in the first half and after the 4:00 minute time out in the second half. Same with football. Call it event planning or community building. So a student could earn one credit each semester they are in college. If anyone else has a better idea to pack the stands I am listening.
2. college basketball needs to follow the NBA and go to 6 fouls. Guys who are not hacking people should not foul out of the game. Mizzou lost the two bigs and the two starting guards could not play much defense for the last ten minutes or so. It just takes away from the game when the best players can’t be out there. The refs miss too many calls to have people out with 5 fouls when maybe 3 were the correct call. I am not sure if this is being discussed, but it needs to be.
3. I think we have the best guard duo in the SEC right now. Not for the whole year but the last 5 games for sure and I expect for the rest of this season. Dru is everything the coaches promised and more. Xavier is going to go down as an all time great if he is here 4 years. I can’t remember a Mizzou duo having a game this good in this millennia. I would have to look up what Dixon or Pressey did the night Marcus went nuts against kansas. These two should give everyone a lot of hope for next year. Going back to point 2 I think X deserves a ton of credit for not fouling out. He still makes a couple of bad youthful decisions a game but makes so many more good ones.
4. I really really like the freshman. I think Jackson and Kobe will start next year along with Dru and X and that is good to great level right there. Need to find the 5th guy though. For the first time I think Braun might be something if he can put on some mass.
5. Since it wouldn’t be PM without a complaint. I would love to discuss the rotation with Zo. Reed needs to be out there as much as possible. If he can’t be Mitch and Braun we’re getting man handled on defense and the boards. There were two times were Mitches guy got 3 offensive rebounds in one possession. JFC. So point being, if you aren’t getting anything in the defensive end from Mitch or Braun, why not run Jackson out there more. You will get offense out of him. Not taking away from Braun’s two monster dunks, those were awesome but he was wide open under the basket. Tray can break bugs down off the dribble or shoot over guards from outside. If none of the options you have can stop anybody, put the guy in who can score enough to even it out.
5. This game was freaking awesome, but does it mean anything in the big picture? Well maybe. This team is playing pretty good right now and I think they finish at .500 or better getting eligible for post season play. There will be teams with better records than Mizzou who miss out in the NIT, but I am nit sure any of them will have the quality of wins. I think 1 game over .500 gets them in. That is nobody’s goal when you start the season, but it is where we are at now. Considering everything it is a good accomplishment. The more time the young guys can play together the better.
6. Hopefully this is a start of a run. Every game for the rest of the year is winnable.
