Cross and Wilks - similarity?

Remember when Demontie Cross was the DC for Odom and Barry fired him? Apparently Cross was running some complicated defense that made our guys think too much (besides apparently being a jerk). I’ve wondered if this is a similar thing. I think Walters was running Odom’s defense. Could this defense just be too much for college or at least our guys? I’m not buying that this is even mainly a talent issue.
