Both coaches available at 11. I'll update you here

Young: "This is big. I love this guy more than you ever know. We've been together a long time...Think he's one of the best young coaches in the country."

Young says he has to have a lot of humility. He's a Georgia Southern Hall of Famer and he's the worst player in his house.

Thanks Desiree Reed-Francois and Mun Choi. "Really happy to be a part of Missouri basketball. Got to be thankful to Leonard Hamilton who blessed this."

Thanks Florida State for embracing him and allowing them to raise their children. "I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to come to what I think is one of the better basketball programs in the country."

Young said he considered coming into the press conference with a Band-Aid under his eye to impress us with his Mizzou basketball knowledge. Lists off Chievous, Booker, Dooling, Gilbert and Sundvold. "I understand the basketball tradition here and I understand the potential of this place and I love being at a place where basketball is top priority."

"I begged my wife to let me come and join Dennis...Dennis is a winner, he's won all his life. I've been a winner. I've won all my life."

"When you go in the trenches with somebody and you have that kind of success and you stare Roy Williams and Coach K and Tony Bennett in the face, which is a scary thing, but you have success, you have a tremendous amount of confidence."

"You don't want to come off as arrogant, but you are confident because you've done it before."

I asked when this came together. Gates: "When you've been in the dungeon side by side, some things don't really need to be said....I need you coach Young...The amount of respect I have for coach Young is unbelievable. I've had a chance to see him work, see him recruit, but also see how intelligent of a basketball mind he is."

Young recruited Gates to Northeastern. Young: "And committed. Till I messed up and took him to the football game."

Gates: "He is overqualified to be an associate head coach in the SEC and I really mean that."

Young says if he got a Power Five head coaching job before Gates he'd have hired Gates.

Gates says he thinks his experience will help Young. "I'm Michael Jackson, he's Tito Jackson. I have no problem with that. They sold a lot of hit records."

Young "To have the success we've had in the past, those recruiting classes are three and four year relationships. You've got to understand that...If you're committed to it you can put together some of the classes that we put together."

Young says since he was a head coach he has learned the importance of controlling his emotional intelligence. he didn't know how to do it then and it hurt him. He says he thinks he can help Gates understand that. "This is a perfect seat for me. Some people look at it and say it's an out of the box move but for me it makes perfect sense."

Gates uses a great phrase: "Post traumatic recruiting syndrome is real." Says you recruit these kids every day and then all of a sudden they get to campus and those texts and calls stop. You have to continue to treat the same way once they're on your roster.

Young on the portal: Try to get guys that have two or three years as opposed to one year rentals. "I think that hurts your culture more than it helps you. You still need to find some good high school big time players to come into the program. Some programs have sold out to the portal. I think we're still going to use it, but we're still going to bring good high school players in"

Gates on Aidan Shaw: Has the potential to be an all conference player.

Young: Mizzou is a national brand. Should be able to recruit nationally.

Gates: Young has a great eye for talent. His head coaching experience and his evolution showed at Florida State. Every coach needs someone who can disagree with him and push back and they can come out on the other side with respect.

Gates on the rest of the staff: Anticipation is awesome but the patience will be rewarded. Doesn't give a specific time frame.

Young is going back to Florida today but will be working the phones and get on the road.
