Ethical considerations aside (and by no means do I think what Miami is doing is ethical) is this a sign of things to come with respect to how schools conduct coaching searches?
I think it makes pretty good sense from the school's perspective. Just like we say kids should be able to transfer freely if coaches are able to take other jobs freely. If coaches are able to test the waters (a la Mike Anderson every off-season) then shouldn't schools be able to do the same? I mean, is the current coach really going to resign and walk away from millions of dollars? And if he does, well then I guess the school saves some money they can apply to a new coach's salary.
Definitely a lot of advantages to the schools operating in this manner. Wonder if this will be the new way of doing business in the future....
