I'm pretty much obsessed with privacy, particularly my own. The readily available DNA testing options are scams designed to collect DNA and sell it to the government and the insurance industry. Knowing all of that, I just did one anyway.
One of my kids is adopted and of a different racial and ethnic background. We have no knowledge of her ancestry. Naturally she's curious, so we did a test for her and it's honestly been a very positive experience for our family.
I did one with her to support her through the process and the results are stunning. Much different than my family has always believed. As you all can probably guess from my posting history, my ancestors would have been below the Irish deck on the Titanic. That much was known, but turns out I'm only 65% British and Irish and a whole lot more French, German, Spanish - and Finnish of all things - than my family ever knew or talked about. Zero Native American. Very surprising.
