I'll admit I didn't watch one Cal game the last few years, but reading and listening to this pre-draft stuff, the more I hear about Jared Goff, he reminds me of Drew Lock.
Both were in-state 4-star QBs. Both tall and lanky as freshman. Goff 6-4, 190. Lock, 6-4, 200.
Both come from athletic families. Goff's dad was in the MLB, Lock's dad as we know played for Mizzou.
Both were thrown to the wolves as true freshmen. Goff put up better stats, but his team went 1-11.
Both are thought to be smart, savvy guys with a good head on their shoulders.
While Drew can move pretty well, both are primarily pocket passers.
Not saying Lock is destined to be the number one overall pick, but there is precedent for him to bounce back after a disappointing freshman season. Goff was sacked and hit quite a bit as a freshman, but didn't get down about it. Last season he threw something like 40 TDs.
Here's to hoping Drew is on the same trajectory.
