Drink congratulates Dennis Gates on being SEC coach of the year by USA Today.

Drink said continuity on the defensive side of the ball continuity is good, but said the defense hasn't made it and they still need to improve. He also said working on the offense is hard because the defense plays so well.

He said there have been more good days than bad days for Jake Garcia. He said he's really impressed with walk-on Dylan Laible. He said the speed of the game doesn't bother him and he's been able to grasp the system quickly.

Drink said Cody Schrader has been able to display more of a leadership role because of his character and him being able to play at a high level in the SEC. He said they're asking him to get better in thing like blitz pickup, but he said not many out work.

He said they're looking for consistency on the o-line and who the best five are. He said he's impressed with Valen Erickson at RT. He said Tristan Wilson and Curtis Peagler are coming along. He said EJ Ndoma Ogar is still not full recovered.

He said Connor Tollison has to be better snapping the ball and that it's an issue they're working on.

He's pleased with Marcellus Johnson and how he approaches the game on and off the film.

He said Armand Membou is plenty powerful but he's got to be quicker since he's quicker on the ball, but he said he will be a big-time player for the team.

He said Johnny Walker has been very consistent and that they've challenged him with his weight. Firestone, Arden Walker, Ben Straatman and Jahkai Lang are improving. Lang earned his number.

The convo with players who could've left did the players think they were at where they wanted to be, could they have value for Mizzou, and did

He said they tried to tell the players that it would be cool of they came back collectively.

Barrett Banister is training for pro day which will be two Fridays from now.

Tyrone Hopper is finishing his degree this semester and doing an internship with the weight room and doing some work as an assistant.

Drink thought Nate Peat was leaving once he participated in Senior Day, but he said Peat felt there was more for him to do and he's happy to have him back.

He said he thinks the RB room is deep, but he said yards after contact was one of the lowest in the SEC.

He said Chance is taking it day by day and he's still in a no-contact type of area. They're trying to mitigate the risk to an acceptable level. He said they've had to draw blood multiple times recently to see if the medication is working well.

He said one of Mekhi Miller's best attributes is retaining and applying his football knowledge. He said he has a knack for finding openings and catching the ball.

WR Theo Wease is a big-body target and able to defeat the press. He said they've got to get him more deep shots.

RB is the biggest position and safety are the positions you kind of have to wait for the spring game for players to distinguish them. And QB of course.

Drink said there have been proposals on 8 game and 9-game SEC schedule, but he believes what makes SEC great is the establishment, tradition, the passion of fans...he's not as apt for playing all the teams in the league because he likes regional rivalries more and it helps with recruiting. He can't imagine some schools not playing each other every year despite longstanding rivalries. He doesn't really care which schedule they pick as long as there's some consistency with opponents year in and year out.

I'll have takeaways coming soon.
