Drink starts by thanking fans and the student section for their support and energy. The attendance was 50,434 which is the most for a home-opener since 2019.
He thought there were good and bad moments.
He credits special teams for forcing a short punt and a blocked punt early in the game.
He credits defense for holding them to 2-13 on third down.
Obviously, he's disappointed in Mevis.
The plan was always for Sam Horn to start the second half.
He said the blank assessment was that Cook had a better first half. He said Cook was efficient and that Horn had his moments.
Drink said he thinks they called the line of scrimmage but felt there were a lot of unnecessary penalties just like last year.
He said SD came in a different defense by using a three-man front which is different from their four-down front.
He said Sam starting isn't important to him as far as starting the next game. So, they will continue to evaluate. He still has to earn the start next week.
Drink said Brady has a leg up on Horn that's why he started.
He said inside the 20 has to be a lock for a field goal. He said the laces weren't out on one of the kicks.
He said SD played a lot of odd cover 2, so they couldn't really throw what they wanted. They did get a couple of plays off where they got to move the ball.
He credits Connor Tollison for Luther Burden's touchdown because he made a key block on that play.
Tollison did have a couple of sloppy snaps though.
Drink said he's proud of Blake Baker and the defensive staff because the new SD offensive coordinator didn't call plays at his last job (SDSU). So, they repped as many plays as they could in practice of SDSU tape.
Drink said Marvin Burks could've gotten a strip sack. But he doesn't consider him a true freshman and he called him a special football player.
Jaylon Carlies being out seems to be a little more cautionary than a true problem from what I understand.
He said Kirby Moore did a nice job designing the boundary runs. That led to them being able to run inside zone after running some good outside zone plays.
Called Brady Cook a great leader for putting the team first. He was coaching up Horn when he was on the sidelines. He mentions how Cook put his body on the line last year. He really gave Cook his flowers.
