I just drove a 1600 mile round trip to North Dakota (hunting trip) from St. Charles County, MO. This route included downtown Minneapolis (I-35 sucks) and eastern Iowa, both liberal territory. Five states total including South Dakota (I-29) on the way home.

Side note: The wind damage from that Aug. 10th derechod was extensive and amazing in the Cedar Rapids, IA area. Wow!!! I saw the terrible Joplin tornado damage and it was grass top destruction. Cedar Rapids was anything above 6 feet...damaged.
