So I have been to 4 games this year and every game I have had someone sitting close to me that is bemoaning Gates as a coach. And much of it is the same few topics every time. 2 guys behind me at the the Vandy game were complaining about rebounding and how we never rebound well under Gates and I told me wife "man it feels like we are out rebounding Vandy by quite a bit" and I looked up at the box score and sure enought we were. Same stuff in the 2nd half. IMO Gates has paid special attention to rebounding bc it seems like we are doing a much better job this season than last. The same guys were also talking about how we never shoot free throws well under Gates and this year does seem like we are having issues and I am afraid it will cost us another game besides Illinois. But I don't remember it being an issue prior to this year? I do agree that we tend to get stagnant sometimes on offense and don't move without the ball but it wasn't the entire game. IMO last season garnered a lot of ill will toward Gates and while some of it may be justified, I believe that most of it is not. I think if he learns to get the same intensity out of the guys for a full game and we can improve our FT% a bit this could be a pretty special year.
