Illinois did the right thing with Lovie....they never let him become a total lame duck and it preserved his ability to recruit. If Sterk fires Barry, you possibly keep recruiting intact with a new coach and staff. If you extend Barry, you do the same. If Sterk does nothing, then you lose some recruits this year and you kill any recruiting for next year as well.
