I grew up playing hockey in Jeff City, and I've always been so confused why Columbia, with it's growing size and pretty good Parks & Rec facilities, doesn't have a hockey rink?

If Auburn, Bama, Georgia, USCe, and Tampa can get division 1 teams (as well as Lindenwood and Nebraska-Omaha, Arizona State, and two teams in Alaska), I feel like all Mizzou would need with the hockey talent in St. Louis and Chicago to eventually get a D1 Men's and Women's team is to have a rink with a couple thousand seats close to campus. Why hasn't the City and the University come together to make it happen? If you build it, they will come.
On Monday, College Hockey South announced that Auburn, along with Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and the University of Tampa, will create a new D1 division of college hockey within Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) College Hockey.
