He seemingly has perfected the art of picking mid major players/jucos that are ready for power 5 basketball. To date all the kids he brought in on scholarship have produced. Coach Martin did it but sporadically at best. He missed on more than he was right on.
It is as if Gates came in with a master plan for short term roster construction and executed it extremely well. For the longest time I couldn't see Diarra's upside, but in the last 2 games its right there.
So if Gates signs a kid from some obscure school he gets the benefit of the doubt.
