While I'm enjoying my cookout, the warm weather, my freedom and family traditions, I'd like to take time to acknowledge so many who fought for this country's freedom. Prayers for the families of the fallen heroes....

And thanks to all who continue to defend our freedom.

I am on the road. Just bought an elderly gentleman and his wife breakfast. He had on a US Air Force Korea Retired hat.
My dad was in the Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict.
I picked up his check and tipped my hat to his wife.
I hope he and all other vets understand how much our country appreciates what they did or currently do.

Good call. I’m also traveling today. Will keep my eye out.

An annual reminder: Memorial Day is not Veterans Day.

It's never inappropriate to thank those who serve or have served for doing so. But today is a day specially reserved for those who've paid the ultimate price in the service of our country.
It’s amazing how many people do not recognize this.

I have no issues with people doing a little something extra for veterans today even though the holiday is obviously for veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice. Unlike Veterans Day however, it is never appropriate to wish a vet "Happy Memorial Day". Don't do that.

Everyone should remember the family of CSM Kevin Griffin, who lost his life on August 8, 2012 in Asadabad, Kunar Province, Afghanistan. CSM Griffin was a loving father and husband but also served as the commandant of Mizzou Army ROTC and helped mentor a whole generation of Army leaders and Mizzou Tigers.

Today (as is everyday) a good day to thank a veteran for their service. While we honor those who have fallen - it’s even more apparent how great the sacrifice is to serve our country and we should thank those that have made that sacrifice. But yes, definitely not a day to say “happy”
