I stay at a lot of hotels. (1700 lifetime nights at Marriott brands is the equivalent of more than 4.5 years of not sleeping in my own bed.) It seems like the name brands at the higher end have more restrictions on the use of the TV for anything but their programming (e.g. you can't use the HDMI port to plug in your favorite streaming device). At Marriotts they usually have a LodgeNet device on the back of the TV with an RJ-11 connecting it to the TV. The standard hack is to disconnect this. The controller blocks your ability to manage the TV. Once disconnected, you can use the buttons on the side of the TV to select inputs.
That works pretty well until you run across a TV without buttons. Marriott uses a standard remote from Lodgenet that works the evil locking box on the back of the TV. SOMETIMES you can hit the function button on the controller and find a menu item that allows you to select inputs. But this week my TV has no buttons on it whatsoever and the other buttons on the remote don't work. I'm now temporarily defeated by the evil Lodgenet. Anyone else know any hacks? I think I need a universal remote at this point that can work with the TV native, but I don't really want to carry that with me everywhere.
Anyone defeat this next level of customer disservice?
