When your are competing with a guy across the line of scrimmage you want to win the battle, he also wants to win the battle. How can you not compete one on one? I guess a person could not pursue a play. That would show up on film and you would look like you did not have the talent or desire to play the game--would be obvious on film. Unless you cluck like a chicken you will always want to win individual battles so the desire if not the talent should always be there. Sometimes some of our defensive backs appear to miss easy tackles, in that case they may not (being nice) have the courage to play at an SEC level.. Sometimes on special teams guys forget they should tackle the ball carrier not decapitate him. The result is missed tackles. If you want to compete, you compete if you do not just leave the team, with scholarships at stake the Coach may need to assist you in leaving the team. A Coach is not a buddy, he needs to make the hard decisions or the AD has to. I realize this is all about nothing but it makes me feel better to say it.
