First game at Faurot this year(two shoulder surgeries in 3 months).
Offense
Could not understand the constant 1 yd dive on first down. The play calling was predictable and focused way too my on horizontal movement. Drink doesnt seem to trust Bazelak to run the full offense(hurt or conservative) and theres no consistent second back(didnt ride Cox after two good runs). Badies our best player and we're not getting him out in space enough(hes probably the best receiver). Dove can win on contested catches but almost no throw lets a WR continue his momentum downfield.
Defense
I dont know how anyone though Blaze could be an SEC backer, Hes the smallest slowest most out of place backer Ive ever seen and Robinson probably played the run better when it was one backer and three safeties. Our Dlineman are so much smaller than the average SEC lineman and I argued it shouldnt matter if your more atheltic and quicker, but we arent. As Saturday says opposing Olinemen are just showing them out of the club. Gap integrity is terrible and no one is taking up double teams on pass or run. They didnt throw towards Evans much but hes probably our best defensive player.
ST
I dont know how our guys arent calling fair catch inside the five on kickoffs unless it sets up right. It killed us on field position. I honestly thought Drink was gonna make our special teams like Beamer ball where we constantly are making a big play each game. I dont know the last time we blocked a punt, of course we have to make them punt first.
Honestly I think you have to give Drink 4 years, but we have to see improvement and win SC and Vandy and it come to the wire against Arky to have hope of a bowl this year to keep fans interested. We need to support him either way to continue recruiting momentum. The D has to improve week to week and hopefully getting Byers and Robinson healthy will help. I dont think hes lost the team or youd have seen a repeat of Tennessee but we need to see some competitiveness against Florida and be respectable against UGA.
