Since I read so much here that I didn't think I saw, and thought I saw what I didn't read, I went back and watched the last 10 minutes. Preface this that I am no Cobra or Gabe or Mitchell, so will try to be "Just the facts".
9:45 Kobe makes layup gets fouled and missed the FT 62-42
9:30 AL layup 62-44
9:23 Buggs wildly missed layup
8:44 Dru missed a 3, 3 secs left on shot clock but AL fouls and MU retains possession
8:34 Dru missed a 3, 20 seconds on the shot clock
7:40 Dru missed from the side of the lane 6 sec on shot clock, AL had really played tight defense
Under 8 timeout, still 62-44
6:52 XP carry, turnover, first time we really appeared to run clock
6:16 Mitchell 2pt jumper 64-44
5:58 AL long 3, 64-47
5:31 XP missed 3, 7 seconds on shot clock
4:56 Kobe missed a poor 3, 11 seconds on shot clock leading to
4:47 AL runout layup 64-49
4:31 Mark Smith long 3 miss, 17 seconds leading to
4:24 AL runout layup 64-51
4:16 CCM takes a timeout
3:59 Mark Smith missed 3 7 seconds on clock
3:48 AL makes another layup 64-53
3:37 Tilly gets fouled and makes both (another big play in the last 6 minutes) 66-53
3:20 AL offensive rebound and scores 66-55
2:51 Dru misses long 3 with clock expiring, XP probably waited to long to initiate, but AL really shut him down and he finds Dru who had to shoot
2:40 AL makes long off balance 3 66-58
2:04 Dru misses runner from side of the lane
1:56 Shackelford lays a shoulder into Mitchell, clears the lane like a bulldozer makes the shot and gets the foul on Mitchell, makes FT 66-61
1:44 Mark Smith trapped, bad pass, turnover 19 seconds on clock
1:32 #4 on AL uses his arm to push off Kobe, draws foul on Kobe makes two FT 66-62
1:17 Dru gets his pocket picked turnover 15 seconds on clock
1:09 AL layup 66-65
59.6 CCM 2nd timeout (thought posters said Coach never used his timeouts to settle things down?)
0:42 Dru wild shot 6 seconds on clock. hoping to draw a foul? Mark was open behind him
0:13.7 AL miss Mark Smith fouled then misses front end of 1 and 1
0:04 Mitchell Smith block, XP with ball and fouled, makes both HUGE PLAY 68-65
I don't think we had an offensive rebound in the last ten minutes and lord knows there were plenty of missed shots to rebound off of, and many of the AL rebounds lead to runouts and quick scores.
in the last 10 minutes:
Buggs 0-1 on an ugly shot
XP 0-1 which was a 3, but two HUGE free throws
Kobe 1-1 on 2pt shot, 0-1 on 3 pt shot, (ill advised too early) and missed front end of 1 and 1
Mitchell 1-1 on 2 pt shot
Tilmon (fouled on one shot) 2-2 on free throws
Mark Smith 0-2 on 3 pt 0-1 on free throw
Dru Smith 0-3 on 2 pt 0-3 on 3 pt, no free throws
so XP, Tilmon, Mark and Dru go Ofer from the field in the last ten minutes, MIzzou has 0 offensive rebounds and maybe worst of all Dru, XP, and Mark each have an ugly turnover.
Alabama, stepped up the pressure, made big shots and the refs pretty much let both sides play (my Mizzou homerism thinks that if Mitchell and Kobe had fouls then Dru should have gotten to the line at least once)
AND MIZZOU STILL WON THE GAME, and that's what matters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
