In reality, it’s the belching that lets the most methane out. Ruminants regurgitate a portion of what they consume, re-chew, rinse, repeat. You know, the whole cud-chewing thing. Pay once, eat twice. Anyway, that’s when the majority of methane escapes.

But let’s not lose sight of the bigger picture. Cattle are part of the natural carbon cycle, so let’s not dump all the climate change blame on these tasty beasts. And for all you hipsters and health freaks on the OT, grass fed beef produces more methane than grain finished. Plus it tastes shittier. So get that choice or prime grain finished ribeye next time and feel good about how you spared our atmosphere a little more methane.
