COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Director of Athletics Desireé Reed-Francois named longtime Division I athletics administrator Marcy Girton as the Tigers’ Senior Associate AD for Football Administration and Special Projects.
Girton – most recently a senior advisor for Collegiate Sports Associates’ search and consulting practice – moves into a new role providing administrative oversight for the Mizzou football program and handling special projects for the Department of Athletics. She brings over 30 years of experience from all levels of college athletics as a student-athlete, coach and administrator, half of those years coming in the Southeastern Conference, including serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Auburn University and the University of South Carolina and as a football sport administrator at both Auburn and Texas A&M. She has also served as a consultant in the NIL space.
“We were looking for a highly respected leader with a track record of excellence for this new position, and Marcy stood out during the search process,” Reed-Francois said. “Her previous experience in the SEC, working with coaches, familiarity with NIL and work at all levels of college athletics, along with her unique perspective of being a former student-athlete and coach, makes her the ideal person to provide a high level of support for our football program and Department as a whole. We are pleased to welcome Marcy to our team and to the Mizzou community.”
Girton spent seven years as the Chief Operating Officer at Auburn, where she was involved in all facets of the daily operations, facilitated a strategic plan, oversaw a facilities master plan and served as Acting Athletic Director. She also helped lead searches for a Women’s Basketball Head Coach and AU’s Senior Woman Administrator among others.

Before joining the Auburn staff, Girton had stops as Deputy Director of Athletics at Texas A&M (2012-2016) and Chief Operating Officer at the University of South Carolina (2008-2012).
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity provided to me by Desireé to join the Mizzou Athletics Family,” Girton said. “There’s palpable excitement and momentum surrounding the upward trajectory of the Department and it is a great time to be a Tiger. Desireé is a phenomenal leader and I look forward to contributing to enhancing the outstanding efforts already under way.”
During her four years with the Aggies, Girton assisted with the day-to-day operations of the Department as well as serving as sport administrator for football, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, and men’s and women’s tennis. At South Carolina, Girton oversaw all external operations and was the primary administrator for several sports. She also had stints as an Associate AD at both TCU and Western Carolina University. Before getting into administration, she spent ten years as a women’s basketball and tennis head coach at the Division II, III and NAIA levels.
A native of Reelsville, Indiana, Girton graduated from Taylor University in 1981 and received Master’s degrees from Ball State in 1982 and Indiana State in 1983.
