We aren't in as dire straights as we might believe. We have played against two pretty good running teams. CMU had 310 yds rushing and over 500 yards of offense in their only other game. Kentucky didn't really run the ball in their opener, they wanted to establish their new passing game. It worked, they won 45-10 and allowed only 87 yards of total offense. They have what might be considered the best OL in college football and their defense is nasty. Speaking of defense, CMU shut out their other opponent 45-0.
The good news, Mizzou did a pretty good job moving the ball against them. It sucks that we lost a close game at night to Kentucky, but they might be a lot better than we gave them credit for. It's because of the name Kentucky why we are so pissed, it has nothing to do with how good they actually are. I could easily see them challenge Georgia for the East. I think they will come in 2nd.
We absolutely have to fix the defense though, even if we were gouged by good running teams, we were still gouged on the ground. Against Tennessee last year we looked pretty hopeless against the run too, especially the way we were blown off the ball (it was a lot more concerning than gap responsibility), yet we ended up decent against the run. It was our secondary that was a problem, and I think we are much better there this year.
Anyway, all hope is not lost. We are sitting at 1-1 with 10 games to play. I still believe we can win at least 7 games and that would be a pretty good season. Here's to hope # Drink Up!!!!!!!!!!!
