Leaving aside our thirst for football this year and the dire financial impact of not playing games, would we be better from a long-term recruiting and fanbase enthusiasm standpoint if this season never takes place? As Gabe and others have opined, first year coaches without established starters at the QB position are going to be particularly challenged. With an extra year to prepare and implement the schemes, would we be better from a recruiting and fan-enthusiasm perspective to keep the off-field momentum flowing without a potential losing season stalling or derailing things? And perhaps the staff will get a pass from recruits and the fanbase, but I’m not sure they will if the season winds up in the 4-8 range.
Sounds like a specious argument, and frankly I don’t think it makes sense, but perhaps there is merit. Again, this line of reasoning pretends that the financial piece of the puzzle doesn’t exist for the sake of the debate.
