Release from the SID:
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men’s Basketball head coach Kim Anderson will welcome a new face to the program for the 2016-17 season, as Chicago native and emerging coaching talent Emanuel Dildy joins the Tigers’ staff as assistant coach.
Known for his energy on the court and for a tireless approach to recruiting, Dildy has worked his way through the college ranks. He played at New Mexico State (2000-02) and Eastern Illinois (2003-05) before coaching at the junior college level and making stops at his alma mater, EIU, (2012-13) and Loyola-Chicago (2013-16).
“Emanuel is a high character, high motor type of coach, and someone who I feel can really connect with the guys currently in our locker room, as well as with future Tigers on the recruiting trail,” Anderson said. “He is a young, energetic coach who has done all the right things leading up to this point in his career - build great relationships and coach smart, intense basketball. Mizzou fans will love getting to know Emanuel, who is passionate about teaching the game and developing young men.”
Fresh off completing his third season as an assistant coach for head coach Porter Moser and the Ramblers, Dildy was influential in his hometown Chicago area on the recruiting front and also spearheaded the tutelage of Loyola’s guards. Additionally, Dildy was impactful in the areas of scouting and player development.
“I spent part of my childhood in Missouri, so I know what Mizzou Basketball means to people in the state and the importance it has to so many,” Dildy said. “The chance to join a staff with Coach Anderson and Coach Loos, two guys I got to know in my early years of coaching, makes the transition very smooth. Add in that I was able to meet Coach Shields during my time at Loyola and you’ve got a lot of familiarity and comfort there. It will be easy to be on the same page with how we’re teaching and how we’re recruiting.
“Coaching in the Southeastern Conference is an exciting opportunity that I’ve been working towards, and I cannot wait to help the Tigers meet the challenge head on. Also, I’m looking forward to being a part of the Mizzou and Columbia community. It’s already the fall, so it’s exciting to step in and start getting the team ready for the season.”
While on staff at Loyola, Dildy mentored Milton Doyle, who was the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman and Newcomer of the Year. Doyle became a 1,000-point scorer for the Ramblers entering his senior season in 2016-17. Additionally, Dildy helped coach Devon Turk, who became Loyola’s all-time leading three-point shooter during the 2014-15 season.
At his alma mater for the 2012-13 season, Dildy helped coach Panther forward Sherman Blanford to Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team honors. Prior to his return to Eastern Illinois, Dildy served as head coach at Kennedy-King College (Chicago, Ill.) from 2010-12. He previously worked as an assistant coach at the school from 2008-10.
Dildy averaged 15.3 points per game as a senior at Eastern Illinois in 2004-05, which helped launch a professional career. Dildy made stops in Germany and also played in the International Basketball League before starting his coaching career at Kennedy-King.
