Just got back from Georgia. If you felt like the better team lost, you may not be far wrong. The SEC, over the years, is masterful at positioning its top teams for multiple spots in the BCS or College Playoff. Despite a history of incredible depth of great teams all the way down the line, the SEC never has a year where the league "eats its own", and is left out of the playoff. In a down year across the conference, and in the last year of the 4-team playoff, the SEC is not going to let it's best shot at a College Playoff spot get damaged by a Mizzou upset in Athens in November. The SEC needs Georgia to be able to survive losing to Ole Miss or the SEC championship, and still make the Playoff. Millions of dollars are at stake, as well as the national reputation of the SEC brand. For us to win that game, we would have had to utterly dominate Georgia start to finish, which wasn't going to happen.
And that is why an offensive pass interference penalty in the 4th quarter gets not only reviewed, which is illegal, but overturned, which is unprecedented in NCAA history. Add a slew of other favorable calls between the hedges, and it slowly impacts the game. So don't trash Brady or Eli too bad, it wasn't their fault. College football is big business, and Mizzou winning that game would've been "bad for business".
