Wow what a day! Sports are funny in a way. You have talent, coaching and this mysterious thing called momentum. Georgia was a superior team to us. I hate to say that but it’s a fact. I’m not sure about how our coaching stacks up but I like what I have seen so far. For that 15 minutes or so we had the momentum in that football game and we collapsed their pocket, hit the quarterback, blocked a punt and moved the ball on offense a little bit then we lost that mystical momentum and the talent gap became apparent. I’m still very proud of our football team and think we are trending on the right direction.
I’m not sure about the talent gap with the Illini on the hardwood, or the coaching comparison but momentum worked for us at times and against us at times. In the end we rode that wave to a hard fought victory.
In general I like the momentum of our football and basketball programs. I know how dangerous optimism is but I have it big time with both programs. We are dominating series with our regional rivals in both sports. It starts there, sprinkle in some recruits and ride that momentum baby!
