Politicians in several states are asking children 12-15 to get vaccinated. First off, Covid poses basically no danger to these kids unless they are FatAF with Asthma or they have cancer.

Biden urges parents to get kids vaccinated.

WHY are we doing this? to protect boomers who choose or don't choose to get vaccinated.

Science says we need 60-70% to reach herd immunity. Kids getting COVID also counts as herd immunity. So far, there haven't been reports of someone getting the vaccine and getting covid and dying.

The vaccine is only emergency approved, has not gone through regular process.

We don't know long terms affects, especially versus children who are still physically developing.

But sure, Eff those kids, we gotta protect the BOOMERS.

We know the long term effects of smoking yet people still do it all the time

Are kids ages 12-15 allowed to do so? Better yet, are they told they have to?

I agree the smoking dangers analogy isn't very good, but no one is being told they "have to".

I won't allow my kids to get the vaccine unless/until there is more available information in the future on the overall affects.

But if other parents want to for their kids, I feel that's their decision.

I think as long as it is free choice, I am fine with it.

My concern is that some of the more progressive states may require it for school and/or travel.

It was a terrible example but my point was that long term side effects won’t dictate people’s actions. In medicine unknown long term side effects is a given, if you waited too long to study you would never get anything to market. Medicines get approved and then taken off the market all the time.

I don't see how they could mandate it fully, but I could see your point about it being used for "return to in person" learning.

Don't they mandate the "regular" vacinations before you can attend school? (the usual stuff they get at the doctor)

Yes, but it's typically states that have to pass legislature mandating the vaccines for attending schools. Some private schools will do it on their own.

It's a gray area when the vaccine does not have full FDA approval. An EUA should not be mandated.

.Not trying to come across as pious or morally superior...but I have said from the beginning, we should not be making decisions that can destroy the economy or put young people at risk physically or economically to protect us old people.

My son is 30 and healthy...I don't want him taking the shot. By now...everyone that wants the shot could have had it...it is on them now. Ultimately...his call.

Young and healthy....no way.

Parents can make that decision...but I think it is a dumb decision.

The CDC met with Congress on Wednesday and still had this dog and pony show going. The next day BOOM! the science is settled. Vaccinated don't need to wear masks or socially distance anywhere.

I suspect by early June the CDC will release new guidance indicating "new" data showing kids don't spread it and they no longer have to wear masks. I don't agree with it, but I understand why it makes sense to wait until after the school year ends to update the guidance for kids.

We are doing this because the virus isn’t going away and these kids won’t always be kids. We do the same thing with chicken pox, measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, typhoid, influenza, etc.

I 100% agree with people who wish to delay the mandate until the vaccines advance beyond the emergency approval stage, but the thought process of these kids won’t hardly get sick so they don’t need the vaccine is poor thinking. It may not be your view, but I can promise you it is a pervasive one.

I disagree with the mandate, but 100% agree that the kids should be vaccinated ASAP. My oldest is 17, then a 14yo, and my youngest will be 12 in July. I don’t want to be mandated to do it, but I have no reservations about getting them vaccinated voluntarily.

I agree w/ you 100%.

My kids are 5, 8, 10 right now so my thoughts on waiting until we have more data is based on their younger age.

Yep. I wouldn’t fear it, but shouldn’t be mandated until it is beyond emergency approval. And shouldn’t be given until 12 or so. Similar to HPV.

That's the thing, these vaccines have only been in existence for 13 months. That's a sh1t data set.

Emergency use is to give to those who if they don't have it are at high risk. That's what it is for.

Melvin..........my sons are 34 and 39 and I couldn't wait for them to get vaccinated. Why in the world would you not want a 30 year old to get the vaccine? Don't the pro's far outweigh the con's?

Still young...will there be long term issues? He is at virtually no risk.

I jumped on the vaccine first chance I got.....long term is not an issue for me.

I don't have a strong objection to him getting it...I just think it is not necessary in his situation.

There is no way school districts will mandate an EUA vaccine. If they do they would take on a huge liability. Which is exactly why I can see state legislatures mandating it.

School districts are never going to mandate...rightfully so....

Just like any other mandates on vaccines or most anything else....those will have to come from the federal level...maybe state level.
