One of my clients is a private testing lab. The lab facilities manager told me yesterday his facility is operating 24/7 with an 90% focus on COVID-19 testing - meaning all incoming samples are processed with priority. His lab processes samples from all across the country, without regional preference. They turnaround results in 48 hours, max. They started testing samples for COVID-19 in early January.
His group is in nearly hourly contact with the CDC, HHS, NIH and WHO. From his conversations with those groups, they believe the US is 3 weeks away from the peak and, subsequently, flattening the curve. He believes normalcy will return by May.
His typical personality is stoic and even-keeled, and his optimism seemed reassuring that we're on the right track.
One caveat - based on the number of positive samples his lab has found, he believes the number of confirmed cases is 2-3x what's currently being reported. He also believes hundred of thousands of Americans have been infected already.
