Mike Mosher, 37-year old Overland Park police officer was killed tonight on his way into work during a shootout with a hit & run suspect. He killed the suspect, which is no surprise to me, despite being ambushed upon approaching the suspect's car. There's not much info out there yet, but I'll post more as it's released over the next several days. This one hits a little too close to home for me.

Mike and his dad, Scott, a former LEO, had a side business as firearms instructors. I took Defensive Pistol 101, Self-Defense in the Home, and my CCW certification course from them back when I was a less experienced shooter. His dad is still a firearms instructor at one of the gun clubs I belong to and I recently took one of his shoot/don't shoot simulator-based classes. Mike's wife is also a firearms instructor who focuses on women's self-defense and she's a competitive shooter too who's run matches at my primary club. It's a small community of instructors here in KC, so we all know each other a bit. The great experiences I had as a young Jedi in their classes is what inspired me to earn instructor certifications and become a trainer too.

He was also friends with @christiger, as they had jurisdictional crossover with one another. This is the second LEO buddy of Chris's killed in the line of duty in the past two years.

R.I.P. Mike
