At this point in the season, there's really only one story to follow and I've spent a lot of time in the last week trying to follow it. The following is my opinion. It is not completely uninformed, but nobody is going to actually lay out what will happen. In the end, it comes down to the opinion of somewhere between one and three people (Sterk, Choi, Cartwright). Others may have input and influence but nobody outside of those three would actually be involved in making the ultimate decision:
2-0: Odom stays. I don't think there's much debate about this. He wouldn't go into next season in the most comfortable situation but he'd stay.
1-1: Honestly, flip a coin. Part of it would depend on how they got to 1-1. What did they look like? Are the kids playing hard for him? At 1-1, there would be serious debate. It is my opinion that if you only win one game, the Arkansas one is the one you'd prefer to win. Because while Tennessee isn't a game you should necessarily just expect to lose, it's not the worst loss we've seen. Losing to this Arkansas team would be a horrendous loss and when you couple it with already having lost to Wyoming and Vandy, I think losing to Arkansas and beating Tennessee would be more damaging than losing to the Vols and beating Arkansas. At 1-1, I'd probably lean to him being fired by about 55-45. If he comes back, his seat is scorching hot.
0-2: Curtains. I don't think it's survivable.
This isn't exactly groundbreaking. I know others have had similar thoughts this week. But I wanted to take the pulse of some people and talk to some people that may know more than I do this week. Having done that, this is where I stand as of this morning. We'll know the resolution in no more than nine days and potentially a little sooner than that.
