Where does everyone think the athletic program will be in 5-10 years?
My gut tells me that the BOC is betting the house on a football super conference forming in the next several years. It seems that every extra dollar is being thrown at football so that we will be in a position for a super conference to want us. I think the same thing happened with us moving to the SEC; we were good at the right time.
I am not saying this as a bad thing or a good thing, just where I see the focus of the BOC. I think they wanted to save money on a Robin P. buyout. They scrapped the holistic athletics complex proposal from DRF in favor of just the NEZ project. Coach Drink has an almost blank check to make the playoffs this year and try and stay close to the blue bloods.
Given this strategy and assuming we make a football super conference, will we still have as many sports in the next 5-10 years? What is the purpose of college athletics as a whole? Something to think about.
