Mizzoucobra posed this in a thread earlier today about had this been Haith's last year, who would be the candidates. Sorry to start another thread, but do you really think that we could get a good candidate with the current state of the program? Looking back at candidates that we bypassed from earlier searches:

Lon Kruger: I think he may have been hired the year we hired Haith. Turned out to be a good hire.
Steve Alford: Goes back to when we hired Mike Anderson. Has done well at New Mexico and UCLA but no one wanted him when he was having problems at Iowa and wanted to bail.
Bob Huggins: doing well at his alma mater
Ben Howland: remains to be seen now that he has been hired at MS State.

Who could we hire if it was today?:

Archie Miller (Dayton): would he really be an option with his recent contract extension at Dayton?
Mike White (La. Tech): he seems to be holding out for Ole Miss
Brad Underwood (SF Austin): he is likely going back to his alma mater at ksu after Bruce Weber gets canned
Steve Prohm (Murray St.): would seem in line to go to Bama if they miss on Gregg Marshall since he went to school there. He also recently signed a contract extension.
Tim Floyd (UTEP): surely he's too old at this point at 61 but Rick Barnes is the same age.
Bobby Hurley (Buffalo) and Danny Hurley (Rhode Island): East Coast guys that just signed extensions
Rick Stansbury (former MSU coach and current A&M asst.): he's 55 and wants to be a HC again
Richard Pitino (Minnesota): would appear to be a lateral move but he only makes $1.2M. But is he worth much more as the 32-YO was 18-15 (6-12 in the B1G) this year. Has the name that could help him recruit.

The pickings are really slim, and we may not be able to get a good up and comer and have to settle for a retread like Tim Floyd, Kelvin Sampson, or Rick Stansbury.
