I don't know if this has been discussed ad nauseam but I noticed Mahomes was a 3 star 5.7 according to Rivals with offers from Texas Tech, Rice and Houston (maybe he committed to Tech early). Just amazing how he has developed into a GOAT. How the hell didn't Coach Pinkel not recognize this talent because I believe we were still recruiting Texas at the time or maybe not?

So, he was this good back in high school?

shhhheeeeesh, can’t believe we didn’t get him and win a chip with him!

I saw him lose at Kansas State his senior year. When the Chiefs traded up to get him at 10 I wasn't angry, but sure questioned it as the right move. Its clear that the physical talent was there, but he was always way to risky and bad with decisions in college.

Looks like we'd be effectively trading out Patrick Mahomes for Drew Lock. Drew also put up crazy video game numbers, neither Tech nor Mizzou were world beaters during that time, Mizzou probably a little better.

Reid is a HOF coach so hope he gets this title. Best coach I can think of to not have one. Hope he treats it like a bowl game and puts in some of his wizardry.

Salary cap about to come into play though. It'd be nice if he'd accept Tom Brady like $ to help maintain a roster. Not sure if that's wise for the kid or not, I mean do you push for $40M/yr while you can get it or look long term?

The short, simple and correct answer is that recruiting services are often wrong. Damian Lillard was an unranked 2-star prospect in hoops. Steph Curry was a 3-star. The list goes on and on.

Take 100% guaranteed money on a longer contract but at a reduced yearly rate to make sure you've got a good Oline, upgrade at running back and defensive end.

Just my 2 cents. That way everyone wins. Same total $ for Mahomes, but helps with a good roster.

Lillard also dropped 61 last night. Real shame CMA never went after him.

That is from a year ago. Is he still on his original contract?

I read that the next collective bargaining agreement may include a separate cap for Quarterbacks only, and the regular cap for all other non-QB players. It makes sense with the skyrocketing overall value that are put on any decent franchise Quarterback.

At least 9 NFL teams didn't recognize it either. There were a ton of questions about Mahomes even when he was drafted. He's amazing. But he's also got the best tight end in football, the best deep threat in football, a good offensive line and an elite offensive coach. If Mahomes goes to Houston, is he what he is in KC? Maybe, but probably not. It's a confluence of circumstances.

People also think being a 5.7 three-star is an insult. It isn't. It means you're a Power Five starter and one of the 400-500 best high school football players in the country.

For now. Next year would be the last year of his rookie deal. It's expected he'll become the highest paid player in the league on a new deal after this season.

Thanks, Gabe. That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I don't know how anyone couldn't think he deserves to be the highest paid.

Yea, do like Brady did and take less patriot money but get some sweet deal with Gillette. Maybe Mahomes can take $30 million guaranteed per year from the Chiefs and Clark sell him 50 producing oil wells for $100.

Absolutely...you're right, 3 star 5.7 is definitely no slouch. I think I was more surprised by his offer list at the time. But it looks like he might have shut his recruiting down early and committed to Tech the spring of 2013.

That's actually a great idea! Being from Texas... those oil wells might seal the deal.
