After almost five years, my time at PowerMizzou is coming to an end. Sunday will be my last day with you guys. I have relocated to Portland, Oregon, where my fiance just started a pediatric dental residency. I am really not one for long goodbye messages, but since I have spent so much time conversing virtually with you all (and have met many of you in real life), I figured I'd say a few things here.
First of all — and I promise I am not sucking up here, just being real — you all are very lucky to have a team site as well-run as this one. It's rare in today's media world to find someone who is passionate about what he covers and still professional, and honestly even more rare that exists for Missouri and not like Ohio State or Texas. Don't let @GabeD tell you otherwise, he works his ass off to make sure this is the go-to site for Mizzou news and he takes a lot of pride in that, as he should. He's been an amazing boss. I can truly say I had no plans to work here for five years when I started, but I stayed that long in large part because I knew that I wasn't likely to find another boss who was so helpful yet so hands-off and who I could genuinely call a friend. Next time you want to give Gabe a hard time about that week's Chamber or whatever, remember how much he has poured into this site.
This message board makes me shake my head a lot of days, but it is a pretty cool little community. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you in person. I really do appreciate you all allocating 10 bucks a month to read our work. As someone who subscribes to way too many journalistic outlets, I recognize that you have a lot of other places where that money could go. A few of you should probably reassess your lives and find a hobby other than arguing with people on the internet, but I guess if you're going to argue with people on the internet, I appreciate that you paid us to do it here.
So, what's next for me? I'm not 100 percent sure. I am still going to be writing about sports. Right now, I have a couple freelance opportunities lined up, but I also have a few other irons in the fire, including one that might let me continue to interact with you all on a semi-regular basis (insert eyeball emoji here).
This site will be just fine. I have had the chance to meet my successor on the football beat, and he'll do great. Thank you all for reading. Please keep doing so.
