I am a fan of political chess. I don't like that it happens, I don't like that it is necessary, but I love to study it and look at ways it is implemented or should be implemented.
First off, Jeff Bezos is a Political Chess Master. 1. Amazon HQ2 is incredibly brilliant to leverage local governments, state governments and national government (canada v. USA). Additionally, if you look at Amazon, they have a ton of employees in so many congressional districts. Google is an incredible chess master as well. At one point in the Obama Administration, they had a lead advisor, campaign supporter, Director of USPTO, and legislative aides. It was incredible. They put their stock (Schmidt) on HRC to win. When it shook out, they had to go find new lobbying groups.
Trump and Germany. I think Trump is sensing weakness in Germany's power in the EU. First off, UK left. Second, all of the other countries are SICK of the refugees immigrating and are threatening Germany's open door policy. Even France is starting to become populist on this issue. Lastly, this pipeline issue with Russia has already ruffled feathers with EU partners and Trump jumped on it. Merkell's power has declined over the past several years. For the first time today, I think Trump has some leverage over Germany. Now the problem is that Trump is an idiot liar who shoots from the hip. Now, Germany is making deals for manufacturing with China (which I find kind of hilarious). However, if I were Germany, it is what I would do. I think it is brilliant. It looks hypocritical, but it is necessary. Also, the US economy and markets have been going up the past few years, while EU has kind of stagnated. (thanks FAANG)
