1. Game fell apart at the end of the first, beginning of the second. Were up 5 with a minute to go, were down 8 5 minutes in. Intensity out of the break was disappointing.
2. Tigers shot 8 free throws, made 4. No where near aggressive enough attacking on offense.
3. The most disappointing aspect, at half, msu had 9 turnovers, we had 7. The final Talley? Msu 13, Mizzou 19! Tigers had 12 turnovers in a half of basketball, against a team not particularly proficient at forcing them. That's horrific. Every time Mizzou got a stop in the 2nd half, it was followed by a turnover.
4. Kash played well. 20 points, 4 helpers, only 2 turnovers. Van Leer chipped in 10. They combined for 30 on 12-16 shooting. That's really good production.
5. Everyone else? 14-41 (34%) and 1-13 (7.6%) from three. Biggest offenders? Puryear, Geist and Barnett combined for 7-25, 28% from half of your top 6 minute-getters.
It's really become pretty simple. The opponents know the following things that we lack the ability to do:
1. Beat a man off the dribble
2. Consistently enter the ball into the post
3. Beat defenses down the floor
And that makes assignments simple. Play up on perimeter shooters, press the ball handlers high and double entry posts.
Are some of those issues coaching? Yeah, probably. Is it more of a talent deficit at the PG position and with the wings (in those areas)? Yeah, probably more of it imo.
To win games like this, they've got to make more perimeter shots and work more backcuts in.
Defensively, we weren't great. But there's simply only so much a team can do on that end when you give up at least 10-12 points off sloppy offensive turnovers.
Just an ugly, ugly game.
